Christmas with Papa and Meemaw K

As a child, one of my fondest memories of Christmas in my house was coming downstairs to the most gorgeous Christmas tree. It was decorated just right... with the perfect amount of tinsel to make it shine, candy canes, and presents stacked perfectly under the tree. I can't forget the stockings filled to just overflowing. They looked as if they could burst (that was mainly due to the apple and orange stuffed in the toe)!

This year, Santa K made quite an impression on the Asay kids (all four of them) this year. Here is a picture of our tree the night before our Kemphues Christmas!

Papa and Meemaw K snuck over after the kids had gone to bed so the next morning was an extra special surprise. Papa came in with me to get the kids after they woke up and Avery (after getting the sleep from her eyes) exclaimed "Papa! Papa K!" over and over. She spit out a few other phrases in excitement. Meemaw got the same excited response.

We trapsed downstairs - the adults more excited than A & W simply because they didn't know what to expect when the were pulled into the living room. "Look Mommy!" One of Avery's favorite sentences.

Wyatt's measuring tape! The favorite Christmas gift, rocking chairs for each. Meemaw searched for these two awesome, vintage chairs. Papa replaced two spindles (making both himself -even more impressive, huh?) and painted them both. I do have to mention that Meemaw picked the colors out to match our living room - yes....sometimes in my mind I call her Martha Stewart! Avery opening her precious baby doll from Meemaw!Aunt Kristen got boy A & W some pretty darn cute winter hats. They wore them around for much of the morning. Wyatt will pass by our hat and mitten basket and randomly want to wear them around. So cute when he asks to where his "Monmer hat".
Some pictures with Meemaw and Papa K. I'm not quite sure what face Avery is making, but I'm sure it's one of pure joy after spending a great day with Meemaw and Papa!

  1. So darling!! I LOVE the rocking chairs and the fact that they have a special hand touch makes them even better!! Christmas is all about making extra special memories and all of you will remember them forever. Isn't it the best when they're finally old enough to start "getting" what it's all about??
