Storytime!

One of our weekly summer activities has been to attend storytime at the library that is literally across the street from our house.  Both Avery and Wyatt have had a blast heading over to peruse the shelves for books, listen to stories on the library computers, and listen to stories and create some fun crafts at storytime.  Wyatt has taken to storytime the most as he knows all the songs and LOVES craft time.  I have to make him wait until the directions are given before sprinting to "his" station - yes, he heads to the same table to do his craft every week.

This month their is no storytime, but Avery and Wyatt took it upon themselves when we got home from our trip to the library to read a book together.  They are liking the Llama Llama series of books by Anna Dewdney and this is what they are reading together.  Of course they also chose to pose for the camera after I snapped some candid shots of them.  What hams!

Happy Reading!

Flowers, Dirt, and Worms

This past weekend we had the opportunity to work out in the yard.  One of our goals for the summer was to fill one of our front gardens that has been practically bare since we moved in two years ago.  We took a trip to the garden center on Friday with Avery and Wyatt in tow.  They helped picked out some beautiful plants and we headed home with our bounty of green.  Among our selections were some asters, yellow yarrow, dianthus, a gorgeous red rose bush and four rose of sharon bushes (Morgan's favorite) for the backyard.

Saturday morning we headed out early to catch some cooler temperatures and arrange our gardens.  The kids were a great help as we dug holes, placed flowers, and backed filled with dirt.  In our planting we made some fun discoveries - catepillars and worms!  We have come across these creatures before, but this time it was so fun to watch Avery and Wyatt as they investigated and questioned everything.  Here are some pictures I captured of our day with a final product picture soon to come!

The worms traveled with both as they worked in the gardens.  Avery ended up covering hers with dirt and placing him back in the garden, only to be distraught upon "losing" him in the dirt.  We eventually found him and decided that he was happier in the ground.  Wyatt decided that his worm would like to play in the backyard.  We heard him talking to him while showing him his playset.
Avery, my self-proclaimed princess, surprised me with her enthusiasm with this little worm.  She was the first to pick it up and investigate it - eventually carrying it around with her to "help" garden.
